The Constitution of the Iroquois Nations was created to help the five tribes of the Seneca, Cayuga, Oneida, Onondaga, and Mohawk establish democracy. By founding laws on war, immigration and rights, they could be united and stronger. Dekanawidah meaning ‘Two River Current Flowing Together” worked towards what is thought to be one of the worlds oldest democracies. It was an oral constitution that united the five nations that lived in present day New York.
