On the East Portico of the Capitol, Theodore Roosevelt swore his oath. He had been President for the previous 3 years due to the death of President McKinley. The celebration was said to be the largest and most diverse in their time - Cowboys, Native Americans, Soldiers and Students were just some of the groups that congregated to hear the speech.
